UNESCO launched World Digital Library

UNESCO and 32 institutions launched World Digital Library. The launch was took place UNESCO headquarters. Mr.Billington first proposed the creation of world digital library to UNESCO in the year 2005. It is a cooperative project of the library of congress and UNESCO. The launch will takes place at a reception co-hosted by UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuurs and U.S. librarian of Congress, James H. Billington, and Directors of the partner institution. The technical assistance was provided by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina of Alexandria Egypt.

The National Library of China (NLC) contributed manuscript, maps, books, and rubbing of steels. World Digital Library is a worldwide Website. The site will include manuscripts, maps, rare books, films, sound recordings, prints, and photographs. It will provide unrestricted access, free of charge, to this material. The World Digital Library interface operates seven Languages -Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Browsing and searching features facilitate cross-cultural and cross-temporal explorations on the site.

Turkish Airline Flight crashed

Turkish Airline flight crashed at 10:30 a.m on February 25, 2009. It is carrying 127 passengers and crewmembers. Plane crashed in to a field as it came in to land at Amsterdam Schipol airport. The aircraft suffered significant damage and it is broken in to three pieces. Nine people died and more than 84 people were taken in to hospitals. Twenty-five were seriously injured and others are suffered minor injuries. The pilot and co-pilot, killed in the accident. All flights in and out of Schipol airport were suspended. Several planes were diverted to Rotterdam Airport and Brussels airport.

The preliminary investigation found that the crash caused primarily by pilot error, and secondary cause is being a faulty radio altimeter. After flight crash, about 60 ambulances arrived along with at least three helicopters and a fleet of fire engine. This is the 10^th fatal event for Turkish Airways since 1970. Severely injured passengers could claim $20 million in damages each, Vreede said.

Swine Flu is a new strain of influenza ‘A’ virus Subtype H1N1. This is a type of Swine Influenza detected in March and April 2009. It officially recognized in Mexico. The Mexican Government closed most of Mexico City’s public and private Facilities in order to prevent the spread of the Virus. Swine Flu symptoms include fever, cold, sore throat, headache, muscle or Joint pains and nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. With a drop in temperature, cases of cold and cough will increase and H1N1 virus spread through sneezing. It is able to spread from one person to other person.

Swine Flu is a flue virus, which can affect pigs. Swine flu in pigs it does not normally infect people it will happen sometime. Any type of influenza is expected to increase in winter. Barack Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

The Norwegian committee has announced that Obama had won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. On Oct 9, 2009, he won this award. This prize was awarded to Obama because of his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international Diplomacy and Cooperation among peoples. Obama is the fourth US president to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Prize committee highlighted his efforts to promote nonproliferation particularly in Iran. Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. The award was surprise too many including Obama also. The award drew a mixture of praise and criticisms from world leaders and media figures. The Nobel committee recognized Obama’s efforts to solve complex global problems. Obama is also working towards a world free of nuclear weapons. Obama captured the world’s attention. This year’s Peace Prize nominees included 172 people. The Nobel recipient receives a prize of about $1.4 million. Obama plans to donate that money to charity.

13,722 Affected by Swine Flu

A total of 13,722 people worldwide infected by swine flu. The European Union, as well some experts in America said that a pandemic might be inevitable, but they doubt the number deaths will be high. In Mexico, 168 deaths confirmed. In US, 169 are confirmed cases. In Canada 34 confirmed cases. In UK, there are eight confirmed cases. In Spain, there are 13 confirmed cases. In Germany, there are four confirmed cases.

The Swine Flu virus in India, taking the death toll to 463. Of the latest deaths reported from the Southern state of Karnataka alone, while only one death confirmed from state Maharashtra. Infection tally rises to 13,722. In the recent past their has been a spike in the number of cases being reported from Kerela. Of the latest 75 cases reported from Kerela alone. “Till Date samples from 72,483, people have been tested for Influenza virus ‘A’ (H1N1) in Government laboratories. Moreover, 13,722 of them have been found positive.

Terrorists bomb on Russian Train

The Novsky Express from Moscow to St.Petersberg was carrying 661 passengers. A terrorist bomb planted on Russia derails the train on November 28, 2009. In this attack, 30 killed and at least 100 were injured, some were in critical conditions. Russian authorities claim that the train targeted in an act of terrorism using homemade explosive it is equivalent to 15 pounds of TNT. The injured were transported to hospitals in Moscow and St. Petersburg by bus, train, and even helicopters. Investigators said that they had opened a large-scale terrorism investigation as detectives with sniffer dogs, looking for clues.

Suspicion will inevitably fall on Islamist radicals from Chechnya Russia’s North volatile region. The attack is most serious act of terror since the Beslan school siege in 2004 in which more than 330 people died. The same train service attacked in 2007 when a similar bomb injured around 30 people. The issue is a highly emotive in Russia.
