Do you own a website? If the answer is yes, then certainly you would like to maintain a top ranking for your website. But it always does not happen the way you think. There might be websites that is constantly going down or becoming unavailable. Such an instance can be quite a frustrating aspect for the followers of the website as well as the web masters. Then there is a downtime of a website it means loss of traffic which in turn gets converted into loss of revenue. However, there are quite a few reasons why a website experiences a downtime. Let us have a look at some of the causes that gives rise to website downtime.

  1. Poor quality web hosting:
    There is no denying the fact bad quality web hosting is one prime reason for the downtime of websites. It has been seen that most of the times budget hosts prove to be bad quality web hosts. In fact, as far as web hosting is concerned it can be said that you get what you pay for. At the same time, there are some budget hosts that showcase a wonderful performance. This is because they are smaller companies and take extra care in web hosting. It is recommended that when you host your website invest a little more and choose a reputable web hosting company.
  2. DNS problems:
    There are several problems in the DNS that could make a site go down. Next time when a site fails to load you can presume that the reason might be some problem in the DNS
  3. DDoS Attacks:
    The meaning of DDoS attack is denial of service attack. In this system an individual or a group of individuals use multiple computers to flood a server with requests so that it can be overwhelmed. The result is that it either crashes or freezes and the sites loaded in that server are not able to load. It is true that the expensive hosts to a large extent have mitigated the risks of DDoS attacks but it could not be removed completely.
  4. Hackers or Breaches:
    One of the prominent causes of website downtime is when hackers take control of a website by way of attacking it and the result is that the website crashes or becomes unavailable. When your site has been hacked it does not mean that you have done something to invite the hackers. Rather the hackers employ bots that go out and find out websites with vulnerabilities. Hence, the attacked site may not be available for quite a few days. Attacks on your website may also happen when you download compromised software.
  5. CMS Issues:
    Whether your website is on WordPress or any other type of CMS, many times there are issues that arise with the on-site software which in turn could cause a downtime of the website. CMS issues can range from loading a blank page, partial loading, or not loading at all.

Last but not the least, there are some of the issues that website faces and it is important that you maintain your website well and keep it away from the commonly occurring downtime issues.
